UAP San Juan-Mandaluyong Chapter Joins Regional District A-5 Outreach Program

The UAP Regional District A-5 with the cooperation of the Philippine Air Force 505th Search and Rescue Group conducted its Outreach Project “Alay-Kalinga Para Sa Mga Batang Aeta” and “Maagang Pamasko” as dubbed by the 505th Search and Rescue Scuadron last December 11, 2010 at the Crow Valley, Clark Field, Pampanga. The district gave as much as a total of PhP. 40,000 worth of food packages and medicines for 500 Aeta children as recipients. Other non-LGUs also joined this Dental, Medical and Gift Giving. Regional District consists of 9 local chapters such as Rizal-Taytay, Pasig, Marikina Valley, San Juan-Mandaluyong, Greenhills,Rizal-East, Rizal-Kalayaan 100, Rizal-Cainta 101 and San Juan-Pinaglabanan and 1 international chapter which is California 116. UAP San Juan-Mandaluyong Chapter held Awarding Ceremonies

In response to the call of Mayor of Mandaluyong City Hon. Benjamin R. Abalos, Jr. in coming up design for city markers, the UAP San Juan-Mandaluyong Chapter had launched the Mandaluyong City Marker Design Competition last December 2010. It is a chapter project for the kick-off celebration of the 39th National Architecture Week. The competition was open to students of UAP-SJMC affiliated architectural schools in Mandaluyong City, the Rizal Technological University and the Don Bosco Technical College. This event was sponsored by Davies Paints. Last January 12, 2011, UAP-SJMC held its Awarding Ceremony for winners of the said competition. The winners who received Plaque of Recognition and cash prizes were (onset photo, L-R): Mr. Cristopher C. Nicolas – 3rd place (PhP. 1,000.00), Ms. Shielabell R. Del Rosario – 1st Place (PhP. 3,000.00), Ms. Ma. Delia C. Quilang – 2nd Place (PhP. 2,000.00) and Mr. Marben Victor S. Galvan – Fourth Place (PhP. 500.00/Consolation).

UAP San Juan-Mandaluyong Chapter Adopt a Barangay Project

UAP San Juan-Mandaluyong Chapter Fifth General Membership Meeting

The UAP San Juan-Mandaluyong Chapter held its 5th General Membership Meeting at the The Original Savory Restaurant, Unit 6 BSA Commercial Bldg., Shaw Blvd., Mandaluyong City last November 25, 2010. The events’ showcases were talks on PAG-IBIG Fund by Arch. Lora B. Rivera, fuap and Social Security System by Mrs. Rowena A. Fesalbon and Mr. Mayonito Fesalbon of the SSS Mandaluyong City Branch. This event was graced with Manila-Sampaloc Chapter President Arch. Jerry S. Valendez.

The program started with the Invocation of a newly inducted member Arch. John Peter B. Colocar, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and UAP March. A new member as well as Arch. Ma. Cristina E. Aytona led the recital of the Architects Credo. Acknowledgement of Guests by the Chapter Secretary Arch. Ma. Carina G. Arjona and Opening Remarks by the Chairman of the 5th General Membership Meeting Arch. Aristides M. De Paz. A Major Sponsor Product Presentation by Steel Tech and a short talk by another sponsor Crown Pipes. Talks of PAG-IBIG Fund and SSS were followed suit.

The event ended with the photo opts shown above. Decopro, Inc., one of the co-sponsors of this event provided items for raffle such as umbrellas and laptop bags.

UAP San Juan-Mandaluyong Chapter Purchased LCD Projector

Pursuant to the Agenda of Chapter Board Meeting held on October 13, 2010, the board agreed on purchasing LCD Projector. They had chosen EIKI LC-XBL25 model and was delivered last November 19, 2010. This is one of the flagship projects of the current leadership of providing equipment that will ease the chapter of renting projector used in its every event especially the general membership meetings. This partially fulfils the chapter theme for the fiscal year: “Services Justified for the Membership”. This will give more effective ways of conveying technical information through visual presentation. According to the technical assistant from EIKI, the lamp of this projector may reach up to four years or more depending on its usage.

Pending chapter board resolution, this projector must be under the custody of the Chapter President or his assigned care-taker officer and must be turnover to the next Chapter President in time of change of administration. This equipment shall be available for rent in a considerable rental amount exclusively to UAP-SJMC members only, it shall be a great help for them wanting to present their projects by visual presentation to their clients. The UAP-SJMC Board wished to thank all sponsors who are supporting the chapter, without them this project would not be materialized.

UAP San Juan-Mandaluyong Chapter Celebrates 23rd Year of Founding Anniversary

Graced by the presence of the UAP National Vice President for Area-A Arch. Richard M. Garcia, fuap, the UAP San Juan-Mandaluyong Chapter celebrated its 23rd Founding Anniversary in style different from the previous years of celebration. Arch. Garcia represented UAP National President Arch. Ramon S. Mendoza, fuap. The Guest of Honor was Hon. Benjamin C. Abalos, Jr. who wasn’t able to come for urgent matters was represented by the Mandaluyong City Public Information Office Chief and Spokesperson Mr. Jimmy M. Isidro. The re-elected Captain Jesus C. Cruz of Brgy. Baranca Ibaba was also one of the guest of honor. Above photo shows (front row L-R) Arch. Vina Elisa C. Bote-Vice President for Programs and Development; Arch. Russell Fatima N. The first part of the program was Opening Ceremonies highlighted with the presentation of accomplishment of Mandaluyong City Government. The second part was the Induction of New Members; among the thirteen new members to be inducted, six was present and able to take their oath of membership. The third part was the Closing Ceremonies with the speech of the National President delivered by Arch. Garcia. Achievers were presented and appreciated for their contribution to the chapter. The fourth part of the program was the most awaited fellowship with Halloween Costume Contest, dancing and singing. Slides of the chapter achievements were shown in the background during the course of the program.

UAP San Juan Mandaluyong Chapter Attended the District A5 Balangkasan

In light of the first anniversary of the Ondoy tragedy and to help residents of disaster-prone areas like Marikina, Pasig, and Rizal, the UAP Regional District A-5 decided to host this very first Balangkasan. Themed “Disaster Preparedness of District A-5: How Prepared Are We?,” District A-5 has nine local chapters, which cover five areas: the cities of Mandaluyong, Marikina, Pasig, San Juan, and the province of Rizal. Three of these areas are prone to disasters, specifically, flooding (Marikina, Pasig, and Rizal) and earthquakes (Marikina). The District has invited several Resource Persons from different professions and government agencies. Arch. Palafox presented the situation of Metro Manila during the Ondoy tragedy, the denudenation of the riverbanks, small spillways and other situation that affected the subsiding of the flood. Before he ended his talk, he presented possible solutions that may help in the future calamities like Ondoy. Arch. Mina presented the experience of her family during the Ondoy flooding and she gave possible steps to be taken by each individual during disaster. Vice Mayor Cadiz presented the experience of Marikina City and the projects that are being taken now of his city to mitigate this kind of disaster again in the future. Engr. Landoy presented rubberized bearing foundation for earthquake proofed buildings. Capt. Mirambil presented rescue procedures during disasters and the modernization steps being taken up by the government.

UAP San Juan Mandaluyong Chapter Attended the Davies Paints Seminar

Davies held its Paint seminar at Max’s Restaurant, Bel Air, Makati City last Sept. 9, 2010. One of UAP Chapter is San Juan-Mandaluyong who’s members attended were Architects Randy Ragadio, Jessie Batol, Alex Aguila, Burt Lumban and James de Castillo. The product demonstration delivered by most able speaker and admirable Ms. Kate are all paint products of Davies. The footages of that wonderful evening enriched our knowledge in painting industry, great tool for us in the world of design and construction. There was question and answer portion on that night and who ever win had a surprise gift.

Attendees were (clockwise) Architects Alex Aguila, Rina Arjona, Russell Moleta, Vina Bote, Richard Pamplena, Carmen Yatco, Gerry Yatco, Steve Estaras, Ric Afuang, Danny Alano, Alvin Canalda, Wilbert Villarina and Jessie Batol. They discussed on the following matters: 3rd GMM, 23rd Chapter Anniversary, World Day of Architecture, Special Projects, Proposed Seminars, the upcoming Area A Directors and Chapter Presidents Assembly and other matters.

UAP San Juan Mandaluyong 23rd Chapter Anniversary and Induction of New Members

The United Architects of the Philippines, San Juan-Mandaluyong Chapter will
celebrate its 23rd Chapter Anniversary and Induction of New Members on October 26, 2010, Tuesday, 7:00 p.m. at the New Horizon Hotel, 778 Boni
Avenue corner EDSA, Mandaluyong City.

The affair shall commemorate significant events that contributed to the success of the chapter.

With the theme for this fiscal year: “United in Advancing the Profession with Services Justified for the Membership” (UAP-SJM), the chapter is not only focusing on the services to the organization and its members but also
